Description

This Channel Island native is perhaps the largest of California’s many buckwheat species, growing as tall as eight feet. While the form varies in the wild, garden-grown plants generally are rounded to upright. The foliage is powdery green and – like most buckwheats – looks great all year with little water. The creamy white blossoms appear in open bunches, lending a lacy covering to the plant for several weeks. These flowers are a riot of pollinators, attracting a wide variety of butterflies, bees and flies. St. Catherine’s lace prefers well-draining soils but is considered adaptable.
