Description

The checker bloom is found in mountainous regions throughout California with the exceptions of the southeastern deserts. Checker bloom grows as a small clump of round, deeply lobed leaves which expands from year to year. In spring a long, trailing stalk of numerous dark pink flowers appears, often the first noticeable sign that checker bloom has come out of dormancy. Checker bloom prefers a moist environment during the cool months, but little or no water from later spring through early fall. It accepts a variety of soil types.
