Description
San Diego Sedge grows near the coast from San Luis Obispo County into northern Mexico. It is a beautiful and distinct large sedge. It grows as an expanding clump of wide, upright leaves with a blue-gray hue. Although the clump will grow wider, it does not spread via rhizome. The golden seed heads atop long flower stalks is visually striking. Opinions vary regarding the optimal care for this dramatic sedge. Full sun with regular irrigation is certainly acceptable. A little shade and less frequent irrigation has also yielded satisfactory results. As always, plant as seems best and make adjustments as you assess the plant’s performance.
