Description

‘Blue Jeans’ ceanothus is a popular hybrid with Ceanothus purpureus as one parent. As with Ceanothus purpureus, ‘Blue Jeans’ ceanothus has leathery, dark green leaves with serration on the margins reminiscent of holly. The growth form is upright and open. The flowers are small but dense, and range in color from sky-blue (blue jean color) to violet. Supposedly, the flowers are more violet the more sun the plant receives. ‘Blue jeans’ ceanothus is relatively hardy and adaptable. It thrives in sunny locations with at least medium draining soil. Summer water should be minimized or eliminated once the plant is established. Ceanothus ‘Blue jeans’ is one of the most deer resistant of all ceanothus, though no ceanothus should be considered ‘deer proof.’
