Description

Bear Valley buckwheat is native to the northern Sierra Nevada and the Cascades. It is very low growing, reaching a height of just a few inches, It spreads to form a wide dense mat over time. The leaves are similar to those of the 'Shasta Sulfur' buckwheat: oblong and lance shaped with an olive green hue. The flowers vary from white to cream to yellow and are held above the foliage on long naked stocks. Like all buckwheats, Bear Valley buckwheat is a favorite with pollinators. Bear Valley buckwheat prefers sun to partial shade and well-draining soil.
