Description
Dunn’s lobelia grows in moist places in Monterey County and from Santa Barbara County south into northern Baja, Mexico. Following winter dormancy, it grows rapidly as a low clump of fine, lance-shaped leaves to about a foot tall or so. The summer lavender flowers are interesting, but require a closer look since they are small. This hardy perennial is quite happy in well-draining soil if kept moist. It accepts a variety of sun exposures. Dunn’s lobelia will produce copious amounts of seed and spreads by rhizome, so it may need to be contained in a moist area.
