Description

Chamiso sedge graces a variety of plant communities from Northern California to Alaska. It seems to prefer transitional zones near forests or some form of permanent moisture. It grows as an expanding clump of bright green, upright blades. In spring the flower stalks rise above the foliage to three feet or more, each topped with a yellow-green flower cluster. As the seed matures, the cluster becomes dark brown. The combined effect of foliage, flower stalk and seed clusters render this one of California’s more attractive sedges. Chamiso sedge is as adaptable as it is beautiful, but some summer moisture will keep it looking its best.
