Description

Indian mallow is one of many California natives that do exceptionally well outside of their native range. While indian mallow is native to hot, dry, rocky slopes, it grows beautifully and is quite hardy in many settings. The leaves are light olive-green and are given a frosty appearance by a covering of fine hairs. These grow densely in a rounded form. The apricot flowers are abundant and appear through the spring and summer. Indian mallow prefers well-draining soil and full sun. Water sparingly or not at all after the plant is established. There may be some leaf die-back after extreme winter cold, but the indian mallow is hardy to at least 30F. Prune the spent flower shoots in winter to maintain a neater appearance.
