Description

This California endemic occurs in coastal settings along the central coast and SF Bay Area. Strangely, the species, though not our variety, is also found in southern Chile and Argentina. That presumably explains part of the unusual common name. Argentinian biddy biddy grows as a low mound of dark green fronds of lobed, needle-like leaves. The red to purple flowers occur in bunches atop an upright stock. These produce spiny little seeds that explain the other common name: sheepsburr. This plant thrives in a variety of conditions. Some protection from the afternoon sun is advisable in inland locations. Argentinian biddy biddy is winter deciduous.
