Description

This attractive grass is widespread in western North America from British Columbia to Mexico. In California it grows in forest openings and meadows in mountains throughout the state. Diego bent grass forms a spreading patch of bright green, finely textured blades to a height of a foot. In a natural setting it will go dormant during the dry season, taking on the tan/straw color typical of California grasses. WIth weekly water bent grass may be kept green. This and its spreading habit have contributed to bent grass’s popularity as a low-water lawn. Weekly water and regular mowing yield a clean appearance.
