Description

The La Cruz manzanita is one of the many interesting species found in the moderate coastal environment of San Luis Obispo County. The area is one of several manzanita “hot spots” where numerous diverse manzanita species thrive. The La Cruz manzanita grows as a low spreading mound of heart shaped leaves. The leaves are red-tinted when they first emerge and mature to an olive green. The winter flowers are light pink. La Cruz manzanita is adaptable to a variety of soil types. It requires some shade protection if planted in inland locations.
