Description

This rarely encountered selection was made by nurseryman Louis Edmunds in the vicinity of Vine Hill Road and Guerneville Road in Sonoma County. This region is home to the Vine Hill manzanita, but also several other species that readily hybridize, producing progeny of great variety. The ‘Lynne’ selection is thought to involve the Vine Hill manzanita and the common manzanita, A. manzanita. The influence of the latter species is seen in its upright habit, height, and - perhaps - flower color. It is similar to the ‘Howard McMinn’ selection, but is somewhat wider with larger leaves. Expect this manzanita to grow into a large shrub over many years (all manzanitas are slow growers). The early winter blooms are light pink. As with all manzanita, a sunny growing site with fairly well-draining soil is a good choice.
