Description

Sandhill sage grows at the immediate coast from Santa Cruz County into Oregon. It grows as a rounded shrub with deeply dissected silvery leaves. The ‘David’s Choice’ selection grows to about 18 inches in height, while the species may grow a foot taller or so. In summer, fronds of conical yellow/white flowers rise above the foliage. The foliage is lightly aromatic. Away from the coast, some shade protection is prudent. Occasional light watering seems beneficial, with a fairly regular light wash of the foliage. Sandhill sage does not thrive with watering that is too frequent or generous. While the species is short lived in cultivation, the ‘David’s Choice’ selection is more durable if given optimal conditions.
