Description

‘Joyce Coulter’ was developed in San Carlos, CA, in the 1950s by plantsman John Coulter. It grows densely in a low mounding form to fill a considerable area with shiny, evergreen leaves. Although occasionally listed as a ground cover, it may be expected to reach a height of five feet or so. It may be kept smaller in all dimensions by regular tip pruning. The flowers appear in late winter and early spring and cover the plant in solid blue. Like all ceanothus, ‘Joyce Coulter’ will live longer with little or no supplemental water after it is established. When planted in hot locations, it will appreciate a little shade. In San Jose, CA, ‘Joyce Coulter’ has thrived in full sun (Sunset zone 15).
