Description

Creek dogwood is as common in California as it is in the rest of North America. It is found in wet areas where it grows as an expanding patch of upright stems with an attractive red hue. The winter deciduous leaves are medium green and cover the plant quite thickly. The umbels of white flowers appear in the summer and are followed by clusters of waxy white fruit. The luxurious habit of creek dogwood supports a wide array of wildlife. It accepts a variety of soil types and sun exposures. Plant with the expectation that a single plant will form a thicket over time, somewhat like bamboo.
