Description
This selection of California was taken from the headlands of Dana Point in Orange County. It was introduced by Tree of Life Nursery in the early eighties. It is said to have greener foliage, smaller/finer flowers and a more mounding habit than one might expect from a typical representative of the species. It has all the qualities of this fine buckwheat species, of course: dense needle-like leaves, dense mid-summer flowers and acceptance of some shade. Plant with bigleaf crownbeard, Verbesina dissita, and giant coreopsis, Leptosyne gigantea, for a little piece of coastal Orange County in your back yard.
