Description

This hardy rush grows in a variety of plant communities in California and beyond. It is often found near (not in) water and in areas of high annual rainfall. It grows as a patch of round, perfectly straight basal leaves. Over time the plant spreads by rhizome and by seed. The ‘Carman’s Gray selection is named for Ed Carman, who once owned a nursery in Los Gatos, CA. The leaves are a light blue-green. Although common rush responds well to water, it can become quite drought tolerant after it’s established. The leaves remain green even in the heat of the summer. For best appearance, however, occasional water is best.
