Description

‘Dara’s Choice’ is one of our most adaptable and landscape-friendly sages. It mounds to a moderate height and does not develop an open “leggy” appearance even after many years. It slowly grows laterally but within limits and will not overpower its neighbors if given reasonable space. The leaves are a rich green and contrast nicely with the lavender spring blooms. ‘Dara’s Choice’ is also tolerant of some shade and may be naturalized in such a setting (sunset zones 15 and 16). Even with more sun an established ‘Dara’s Choice’ needs very little water to look great. Thought to be a hybrid between Salvia sonomensis and Salvia mellifera, this sage was “chosen” by Dara Emery of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
