Description

This sage is thought to be a hybrid between white sage, Salvia apiana, and black sage, Salvia mellifera. The natural ranges of each sage overlap considerably, which indicates that they don’t hybridize readily. The hybridization likely occurred in a garden setting, where plants often bloom at odd times and for longer duration because of the unnatural setting. ‘Thor’ is similar to the white sage in its growth form and flower color. The leaf color and texture reflect the influence of black sage. Like both parents, ‘Thor’ does best with well-draining soil and plenty of sun. Once established, this hybrid sage does best with little or no supplemental irrigation.
