Description

Alkali sacaton is an impressive bunchgrass in both size and appearance. After a winter dormancy it sends up blades of medium green followed by open, finely dissected flower stocks that mature to yellow. These may be removed, but lend visual interest to the garden through the summer. Like other bunchgrasses, alkali sacaton may be cut back nearly to ground level in the winter to remove the previous year's growth and improve its appearance the following year. Although from drier parts of the state, this plant appreciates some summer water.
