Description

Common viburnum is a rare plant in the northern half of California, becoming common in Oregon. It has been spotted in several counties of the SF Bay Area. In shady places, this shrub grows in a rounded upright form with dark green oval leaves with serrated edges. The spring flower is a bright white umbel which produces dark purple fruit in the early summer. In fall the leaves turn red or orange as the plant goes dormant. Plant common viburnum in a shady spot and water only occasionally if at all, and only just beyond the dripline.
